Lunt Ave project involved replacing windows through a large commercial building located on Lunt Ave in Chicago, IL. MORRIS, IL GARAGE DEMO

Demolition project involved bringing down a garage in Morris, IL. The structure was an old garage. We were able to collapse it using a small backhoe. We removed the debre and left only the cement slab that would be used on a subsequent building project.

The first step in demolition is to obtain any necessary permits from your building department. Then you need to turn off the gas, water and electricity. If the garage has a sub-panel, you´ll be able to turn off the breaker for it in the main panel. Similarly, disconnect branch gas and water lines and cap them, including water lines feeding hose bibbs attached to the outside of the garage. Afterwards, you can safely pull wires and pipes from the walls, removing wallboard as needed to get to them. Pipes and wires are generally recyclable, as are plumbing, electrical and gas fixtures.

There is no easier way to remove roofing than to pull it off piece-by-piece. If you have a truck, pile the roofing in the bed to make disposal easier. If the roof was sound, the plywood sheathing is reusable and may be worth storing if you have no immediate use for it. To get the siding off, you´ll first have to pry off remove all the window and door trim. Like the roof sheathing, the siding may have some value if you can get it off with minimal damage. The drywall on the interior walls, on the other hand, isn´t recyclable, so don´t waste effort removing it carefully.
